Brother James Boze

Brother James Gordon Bose went to be with the Lord Sunday June 5, 2011.  He was born Sunday April 27, 1924 in Smith County Tennessee, one of nine siblings born to the late Mamie Dillehay and Clarence Fisher Boze. He grew up on a farm and was carried to Cornwell’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

During a revival, when he was a young boy, he sought the Lord on the altar at Cornwell’s Chapel.  The altar was full of sinners seeking the Lord with family and loved ones bowed, praying for the lost.  Brother Boze described how the floor of the church gave away and everyone fell about three feet.  He said that he thought it was the end for him.  He instantly sought and found the Lord.  He joined Cornwell’s Chapel by experience and baptism.

Brother Boze loved gospel music, and he often rejoiced while leading singing at West End with his daughter Sister Melinda at the piano.   Brother James was given a new song that day

Psa 40:1 -3 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.  And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Cornwell’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
This photo of Cornwell’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church was made shortly before it was torn down. It was destroyed because of the impoundment of the Cordell Hull Lake. The church, constituted in 1879, was built by Elijah W. Cornwell and was named for him. His wife was of a different faith therefore he built the Montrose Church of Christ for her. They were so close that the two churches shared the same parking lot. Both of these churches rebuilt in the Defeated Creek area but they are now on opposite sides of the lake.
